The Faithful and the Unnamed

May 17, 2026 Speaker: Nick Ertz Series: Encounter

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:1–6

Most of us are living in the category of the five hundred — unnamed, unrecorded, going about ordinary life and quietly wondering when our real calling will begin. But in 1 Corinthians 15, Paul's mention of five hundred unnamed resurrection witnesses isn't a footnote. It's a theological declaration: the risen Christ came specifically to the unnamed, and the way those ordinary people lived was itself the proof he pointed skeptics toward.

In this message from Orchard Church's Encounter series, we explore what it means that everyday faithfulness — parenting, neighboring, working, studying — is not preparation for Kingdom work. It is Kingdom work. Drawing from Hebrews 4, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4, we make the case that you are not waiting for your calling to begin. You are already a witness, and the world around you is watching.
